De-Cluttering – The first step to organization

The art of de-cluttering can be a highly demanding task. It takes a good amount of time and energy to get your household up to your desired standard of cleanliness and organization. But it doesn’t have to be entirely dreadful. In order to make the process of de-cluttering enjoyable, you have to adjust your attitude. Don’t look at it as a tiresome chore, but as an opportunity to make your life more efficient and productive.

Upscaling

So my #3 daughter has been telling me about “upscaling” for awhile now.  I honestly didn’t know what she was talking about until I saw her first completed project…then I sat up and took notice!  She took my paternal grandmother’s headboard that had been handed down to my Dad and then me and turned it into a very chic coat rack!  I will post a picture soon.

So “upscaling” is the art of taking an old piece of furniture, restoring it and finding a new use for it …giving it new life!!  I love it!!

What have you been upscaling in your home?  Please share your projects and your pictures!

Organization Can Be FUN!

It is almost time to put away our heavy winter clothing!  This year lets declutter our winter coats and jackets. Children’s winter coats are often passed from child to child. Spend a few minutes and look at the coats and jackets. Are they clean, in good repair and still wearable? For those that need to be cleaned and mended, will you take the time to clean and repair them before next winter? If you won’t, put them in the give away or throw away bag. Has your youngest child outgrown the smallest coats and jackets? Put the outgrown coats in the give away bag. Look at the coats and jackets for the adults. Are they clean and in good shape? Ask yourself how long it has been since they were worn. Give away the coats that you don’t wear. Toss away the coats that really and truly are worn out!  Mend and clean the coats that you intend to keep and put them away ready for next winter!

Spring is in the air…

Nothing screams clean, fresh, new like SPRING!
As we see nature renewing itself in the spring, it makes us want to bring some of that freshness inside.
Don’t hold back! Pack away the blankets, heavy drapes and dark colors and crack out the scrub brushes and paint brushes and spring into action!

What is your favorite spring cleaning/organizing tip?
